Princess Eugenie took to her Instagram account to release a statement highlighting "family support" within the monarchy, which some feel was a "swipe" at her cousin Prince Harry. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's youngest daughter showed "royal unity" with Prince William as he hosted a royal-filled garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, May 21, for his father, King Charles III.
"Come rain or shine, I was delighted to support my family yesterday to meet some special individuals at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party who have gone above and beyond to support their local communities and the country," the princess posted.
The youngest York princess along with her elder sister, Princess Beatrice, have been two of the only royals apart from the King who have kept in contact with Harry since 2020's "Megxit." In a 2023 post on her profile, Eugenie praised the King and Queen Camilla after their coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6. Her Royal Highness also included a selection of pictures from the event that featured Harry as well.
"Yesterday meant so much to me, as I'm sure it did to so many watching," she wrote. "What a magical celebration for The King, The Queen, our country, and the Commonwealth. The day was such a reflection of dedication and service to our country."
Although some suggest her new post could be a chide against the Duke of Sussex, other insiders feel that she will remain dedicated to her cousin.
"Eugenie, Beatrice, William and Harry, all grew up together, with Harry being particularly close to the York princesses throughout all their parents' troubles in the 1990s and beyond," a palace source spilled in September 2023. "They [Beatrice and Eugenie] are not going to suddenly cut Harry out simply because public mood shifts about him."
They continued: "It is also true that the Prince of Wales despises his younger brother at the moment, but both of the princesses know not to mention Harry to him."
Under rainy skies, crowds gathered in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, umbrellas in hand, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the royals on Tuesday. The future king made his entrance dressed in grey pinstripe trousers and a black jacket, complemented by a light-colored waistcoat. Holding a long umbrella in one hand, he removed his black top hat with the other to greet the assembled crowd, which is a long-running tradition for male members of the monarchy at garden parties.
Eugenie, Beatrice, and Zara Tindall each wore pink and white attire. Beatrice donned a vibrant crimson dress with a white headband, while her younger sister, Eugenie, opted for a white dress accented with a pink headpiece. Pink was certainly the color of choice when it came to royal coordination of attire at the colorful affair.
