'I'll be honest': Kieran Gibbs says Inter Miami player has done something he never expected

Kieran Gibbs has said one Inter Miami player caught him by surprise with what he did on Saturday against DC United.

The Herons left it late to secure all three points against the Black-and-Red as Inter Miami retained their spot at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings, with the Florida franchise traveling to the Vancouver Whitecaps this weekend.

With Lionel Messi set to depart Inter Miami after next week’s clash against St. Louis City SC for the Copa America, Tata Martino’s side will want to ensure they claim as many points as possible in their next three MLS matches.

And former defender Gibbs has suggested he’s seen something from one Inter Miami star he never would have expected.

Gibbs blown away by Leonardo Campana’s winner vs DC United

Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, Gibbs was blown away by Leonardo Campana’s finish against DC United, with the pundit amazed by how brilliantly taken the goal was.

Having spent the majority of the season on the bench, Campana’s goal was a stark reminder on how good the striker can be when given the right chances, and Gibbs was in awe with what he saw.

The former Arsenal defender said: “For me, it’s all about the first touch on his left foot. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know he had this on the right foot, because sometimes it can go anywhere when it’s on your weaker side.

“But look at this, how about the confidence to take this on the second touch, he’s a player who hasn’t played as much as he would like, but this is what the really good players do, they stay focused, they block out all of the noise, they concentrate on what they have to do, and he’s won it for the team.”

Campana will want to make a statement this summer at Inter Miami

With Messi and Luis Suarez both set to take part in the Copa America, Campana will be entrusted by Martino as the man to lead the line for Inter Miami, a chance the 23-year-old striker could relish in.

We saw on Saturday against DC just how good the attacker’s finishing can be when the right passes are played and the right chances are created, and Campana could thrive in the starting XI.

The center-forward has been waiting for a chance to impress this season, and Campana’s best moment of the year has not come at a more ideal time for the Ecuador international.
