Tesla omits 20 million car production goal in latest report

US electric car manufacturer Tesla has omitted the goal of producing 20 million electric cars annually from its latest impact report released on Thursday.

The report only states that the company aims to "displace fossil fuels by selling as many Tesla products as possible."

However, the two previous reports stated that Tesla would need to construct several more factories by the end of the decade to eventually manufacture 20 million electric vehicles annually.

The car manufacturer did not initially respond to the question of whether the target had been officially abandoned.

Last year, Tesla increased deliveries by almost 38% to just over 1.8 million vehicles.

There have been no announcements for the 2024 forecast at this time. Tesla has only suggested a slower rate of growth, while chief executive Elon Musk previously aimed for a 50% annual increase in deliveries.

Musk announced in April that he would accelerate the release of more affordable models due to decreased sales earlier in the year, with the start of production ahead of the original target set for the second half of 2025.

Tesla also plans to unveil its long-promised "Robotaxi" self-driving car on August 8.

The US electric car pioneer has recently faced increased competition from cheaper Chinese models and growing consumer interest in hybrid vehicles in its domestic market.
