'My favourite player': Patrick Vieira says he absolutely loves 'clever' Man City star

Patrick Vieira has said that one Manchester City figure is his favourite player in the world right now.

After spending nine years at Arsenal, and four-and-a-half years in Italy with Juventus and Inter Milan, the midfielder joined City during the 2010 January transfer window.

Having made 46 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, where he scored six goals and delivered five assists, as well as winning one FA Cup, Vieira retired in the summer of 2011.

The Frenchman has recently seen his two former sides – City and Arsenal –go head-to-head for the Premier League title, with the Citizens once again being victorious.

With the Blues now having won four Premier League titles in a row, Vieira has now heaped praise on one particular City player who has played a big role in those title victories.

Speaking to City’s official website, Vieira had this to say about Rodri and what he thinks about the midfielder.

He said: “He is my favourite player. He is strong. He is clever. He is smart. He is a team player. He is all about the team – he sacrifices himself for the team.

“Technically I love watching him play. I always use him as a reference for the young players that I have in Strasbourg. As a holding-midfielder, he’s doing everything right.

“I like his humility. I like his work ethic. I like his simplicity. For me, he is the best holding-midfielder in the world at the moment.”

Rodri has been a top signing for City

Back in the 2019 summer transfer window, City secured a deal worth a reported fee of £62m to sign Rodri from Atletico Madrid.

Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 256 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, bagging 26 goals and providing 30 assists in the process, as well as winning multiple titles.

These recent comments from Vieira mirror what Guardiola said about the Spaniard back in September when he labelled him as the best holding-midfielder in the world.

Taking into account how successful the Frenchman was in his playing career as a midfielder, it comes as no surprise to us that he’s a big fan of Rodri.
