'I'm going' - Roy Keane and Gary Neville simply could not agree on Man City vs Man Utd scoreline prediction for FA Cup final

Roy Keane and Gary Neville were in complete disagreement over the scoreline prediction for Manchester United’s upcoming FA Cup final clash against Manchester City at Wembley.

Manchester United signed off their lacklustre Premier League campaign last Sunday with a 2-0 win against Brighton at the Amex.

The Red Devils had a slight lift of momentum before the end of the Premier League season, with United winning their last two league matches.

However, United’s up-and-down season in the Premier League resulted in an eighth-place finish, with the Red Devils eight points short of the top four.

Erik ten Hag’s men will be without Champions League football next season after United fell well short of a Premier League top-four challenge.

However, the United boss has turned his full attention to the weekend and Erik ten Hag could still end the season with major silverware between his hands.

The Red Devils will face defending FA Cup holders Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday, with kick-off for the final slated for 3pm UK time.

Ten Hag led United to an FA Cup final in his debut season at Old Trafford, but the Premier League club lost 2-1 to City at Wembley in 2023.

Neville makes Man City vs Man Utd prediction

Manchester United punched their ticket to this season’s FA Cup final after avoiding a potential FA Cup upset at the hands of Coventry City in the semi-finals last month.

Coventry City came from 3-0 down to send the FA Cup semi-final tie to extra time, with Mark Robins’ men succumbing to a penalty shootout defeat to United.

Manchester City, on the other hand, secured their place in the final after a 1-0 win against Chelsea in the semi-finals thanks to Bernardo Silva’s second-half winner.

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright previewed the FA Cup final between United and City.

United legend Neville admitted that he would not be in attendance for the FA Cup final at Wembley after he “ran into a couple of City fans” at the 2023 final.

“I went last year and I didn’t enjoy it. It was hard work getting into the stadium, it was hard work getting out, back to the car park,” he said on The Overlap.

“I ran into a couple of City fans on the way out and I just thought, ‘Nah, I just want to watch it.’

“The first thing I was thinking about and I hope it’s true… do you think City will have had a big night out on Sunday night, bladdered like?

“Just a couple of days and it knocks you back a little bit. We did it 20 years ago. I’m hoping they’re still celebrating!”

When asked about his prediction, Neville optimistically suggested that United would play out a 1-1 scoreline in the match before picking up the win on penalties.

“I’m going to go 1-1 and United to win on penalties,” he said.

Keane’s FA Cup final prediction for Man Utd vs Man City

Keane insisted that Neville suggesting he would ‘hide behind his sofa’ for the FA Cup summed up the “sad state of affairs” for United at the moment.

Despite United being considered massive underdogs for the FA Cup final, the Red Devils legend claimed that his former side must believe they can win.

“You’re [Neville] saying you’ll be hiding behind the sofa… that’s a sad state of affairs if you feel you can’t watch Man United in a cup final,” Keane said.

“Listen, there’s always that hope that they will turn up and produce some sort of performance or moments. I think they have moments.

“I look at this City team over the last few weeks and I think Spurs did well against them, Spurs had chances. I look at the Nottingham Forest game.

“I still look at this City team… are they favourites? Of course they are. But you still believe.

“You have to go down, if you have any sort of belief in United, that they can turn up at Wembley and produce a performance, produce a few moments.”

Keane, unlike Neville, went against United in his scoreline prediction and backed City to come out on top at Wembley by either 2-1 or 3-1.

However, the 52-year-old Irishman added that he hopes he is “proven wrong” by United in the FA Cup final.

Speaking on his prediction, Keane said: “2-1 or 3-1 to City. But I hope I’m proven wrong.”
