Man Utd 'draw up four-man shortlist' of potential Erik ten Hag replacements

By Tom Gott

Manchester United have drawn up a list of four candidates as they consider parting ways with manager Erik ten Hag this summer, a report has revealed.

Disappointing performances and United's lowest-ever Premier League finish have seen Ten Hag's position come under intense pressure, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe considering making a change in the dugout during his first summer in control.

Reports in Italy even state that the decision has already been made to part ways with Ten Hag, but The Times reveal that United remain adamant they have not make any final choice at this point.

However, plans are being drawn up in case Ratcliffe and INEOS do decide to change things up, and four managers have emerged as the main contenders to replace Ten Hag this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is a recent addition to the shortlist after his surprise exit from Chelsea, and he is now under consideration alongside Ipswich Town's Kieran McKenna, Brentford's Thomas Frank and departing Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel

The Guardian go as far as to name Tuchel as the frontrunner for the position, with the former Chelsea boss known to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

United's process has been accelerated by Chelsea's decision to part ways with Pochettino as the Blues are now set to snap up one potential candidate of their own - reports state McKenna and Frank are both among Chelsea's top targets as well.

Officials from United have been holding talks with various representatives this week heading up to Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City, which is not expected to impact the decision which will eventually be made on Ten Hag's future.

A full season review will be held after the FA Cup final, with Ratcliffe leading the process alongside Sir Dave Brailsford, Jean Claude-Blanc and Jason Wilcox.

Ten Hag has remained adamant he does not expect to leave the club this summer but the Dutchman is battling to convince the new owners that he remains the right man to take the club forwards.
