Report: Newcastle make £60m player their number one target but he wants to join Manchester United instead

Newcastle United’s top summer transfer target prefers a move to Manchester United instead.

The Magpies could do with reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch, but a lot will depend on their position with respect to the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustaiability Rules.

A report has now revealed Eddie Howe‘s top transfer target, but there’s some bad news for Newcastle United fans on that front.

Newcastle’s top target Michael Olise makes Manchester United decision

Crystal Palace star Michael Olise is expected to be a wanted man this summer.

The Frenchman had an amazing 2023/24 campaign. He had his injury issues, but when he was fit, he was almost unplayable – Manchester United found that out the hard way when he starred in a 4-0 win for Palace earlier in May.

Olise started just 14 games in the Premier League for Palace last season. That, however, did not stop him for delivering the goods – he finished the campaign with 10 goals and six assists.

The talented 22-year-old winger is on the radar of a number of clubs in the Premier League, and a report has now shared the latest on the situation.

Football Transfers reveal that Newcastle United have made Olise their top transfer target for the summer window, which opens in the middle of June.

The report also claims that the Toon ‘are in the lead’ to secure his signature, but there is one big problem for Eddie Howe’s side.

It has been revealed that Olise’s preference is actually to join Manchester United, who have also been heavily linked with a move to sign him.

The Frenchman, whose release clause it set at £60 million (€70m), is believed to be a boyhood fan of the Old Trafford club.

What Newcastle would’ve done this summer if FFP wasn’t an issue

Financial Fair Play and PSR regulations have struck fear in many clubs.

The January transfer window was the quietest we had seen in a long time because teams didn’t want to get on the wrong side on those rules and face consequences.

Newcastle will have to be careful in the upcoming summer window, which is why a lot depends on whether Bruno Guimaraes‘ huge release clause will be triggered.

The Magpies will have to be smart with their signings if the Brazilian ends up staying, but what would they do if FFP and PSR rules weren’t an issue?

iNews revealed recently that Newcastle would be ’emphatic’ in the market if they didn’t have be wary of those regulations.

The report revealed that if Howe was given a free rein, he would sign a right winger, versatile young forward, two centre-backs and a new goalkeeper.
