There are two attackers on Newcastle's wishlist who may be 'too expensive' to sign this summer - journalist

If Newcastle United are going to spend big this summer, it will be on a right winger.

The Magpies need plenty of reinforcements ahead of next season, but a sprinkling of quality in attack is where most of the budget should go.

Their marquee summer signing will likely be in that position, and Newcastle United‘s budget will be boosted by the fact that two centre-backs are due to arrive on frees. Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly look to be on their way to Tyneside, with the club confident that they are going to get those transfers over the line.

That will allow Newcastle to spend more money on a winger, and they have multiple Premier League players on their radar.

Two targets too expensive for Newcastle United

Pedro Neto is a target for Newcastle this summer, while Michael Olise is also an option. Now West Ham star Jarrod Bowen has emerged as a possible Toon recruit, years after Steve Bruce missed out on the chance to sign him from Hull City.

They would all be exciting additions to Eddie Howe’s squad, but HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has explained to Geordie Boot Boys why he thinks two of those targets will simply be out of the Magpies’ reach.

“We know he [Bowen] is a player who Eddie Howe likes,” he said.

“We know Howe wants a right-sided forward, but I don’t think Newcastle are set on one at the moment.

“Pedro Neto, Jarrod Bowen, Michael Olise – I think the latter two are too expensive for Newcastle.

“I don’t dispute that Bowen would be an excellent fit for Newcastle, but I think it will be difficult to get him out of West Ham given the money they will want.”

Bailey suggests alternative option for Newcastle United

It is no surprise that Bailey believes Bowen and Olise will cost too much. Toon fans have the same concern regarding Bowen, who has a contract at West Ham until 2030. As for Olise, his Crystal Palace release clause is £60million.

There is a fear that Neto could cost around that much too, with Wolves setting their asking price at £60million.

While his price might drop, Bailey believes that a former Wolves player should be who Newcastle turn to instead.

“For me, Morgan Gibbs-White is a player who Newcastle really like and he ticks a lot of boxes. He can play on that side,” he said.

“In my opinion, I think he is the most likely to arrive. I think he would be very high on Newcastle’s list.”

Morgan Gibbs-White would be an exciting signing

Morgan Gibbs-White is a player that Newcastle were linked with in January, and was eyed as a possible replacement should Miguel Almiron leave the club. That did not happen at the start of the year, but it looks very possible this summer.

And with Forest possibly needing to sell to boost their PSR position, Gibbs-White feels like he could be a good option for Newcastle. He is a player that Toon officials are keen to sign, while his versatility will appeal to Eddie Howe.

He perhaps is not a conventional right winger, but he can do a job out there. On top of that, he can operate as a number eight in midfield or in a more advanced role as an attacking midfielder. That would give Howe the option to tweak his system should he so desire.

Gibbs-White is certainly a player who Newcastle United should consider, and it will be fascinating to see who they decide to go for. Bailey thinks it should be Gibbs-White, and there would not be too many complaints on Tyneside if that proved to be the case.
