'I'm told': Sky Sports journalist shares what Manchester Utd sources are now saying about Ten Hag's future

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s future remains uncertain heading into this week’s FA Cup final and Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has given her latest update on the situation.

Ten Hag goes into the clash with Man City at Wembley with the hope that a trophy win could buy him more time in the United hotseat.

However, with the likes of Kieran McKenna and Mauricio Pochettino seemingly available, United’s new ownership have a decision to make on the Dutchman, regardless of the result this weekend.

A number of different reports have all suggested Ten Hag’s future will not simply hinge on the outcome of the City clash.

And giving more information on the situation with Ten Hag, Sky Sports reporter Reddy has said that there is something that should concern Ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag future undecided as Sky Sports reporter highlights Manchester United concern

Speaking on Sky Sports this afternoon, Reddy provided a lengthy update on where things stand with Ten Hag right now.

“You say the media are speculating but that is because the club haven’t actually come out publicly to give any sort of declaration on Erik ten Hag and that allows the speculation to swell” Reddy stated.

“Now Man United themselves have said no decision has been made yet and it will be taken after the FA Cup final and the result won’t sway their decision making. “

“Now Erik ten Hag told us that talks have taken place with INEOS and they’ve reviewed his two seasons in charge, so we know that strategic discussions have taken place, looking into his period in charge and reflecting on where there could be changes.

“Ten Hag has always said he doesn’t need assurances from the hierarchy but when we look at it, he’s been using his press conferences to send messages. Yesterday was a case and point where he kept circling the fact that came to win trophies and he’s won one and led the club to two FA Cup finals in circumstances less than ideal.

“I think publicly he’s been confident and strong. Last month he said he has no doubts he would still be in charge next season. Heading into the ground before the last game at Old Trafford he was asked if it could be his goodbye and he said absolutely not.

“But that’s privately. Publicly I’m told that there’s a little bit of change in his tone in the last few days. Whether that’s telling or not, we don’t know. We talk a lot among ourselves as journalists with the staff and the feeling is that if United were concrete in keeping Ten Hag, they’d have communicated that already and all the speculation would die down heading into the final. That not being the case probably tells us a lot. “

Ten Hag looks closer to going than staying

There’s no smoke without fire and as Reddy says here, the fact United haven’t come out and backed their manager suggests others are being looked at.

For Ten Hag, it will be frustrating that he doesn’t fully know what’s happening but it does look like the writing is on the wall somewhat here.

The emergence of the likes of Pochettino being available hasn’t helped either and there’s a feeling that United won’t want to miss out on the now former Chelsea boss.

Ten Hag, then, could well be leading United out at Wembley for his last ever game.
