Report: Liverpool have now decided what they are going to do about Anthony Gordon this summer

Newcastle United superstar Anthony Gordon has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool, and now the Reds have decided what they are going to do.

The 23-year-old is hoping to compete at Euro 2024 with England after enjoying the best season of his career. He has taken his game to a whole new level at Newcastle United, and you could strongly argue that he was the Magpies’ best player all year.

Newcastle’s decision to pay £40million for him in January 2023 has paid off, as Toon officials stole a march on other clubs that admired Anthony Gordon.

Now he has even more admirers, withLiverpool linked with trying to bring him back to Merseyside when the summer transfer window opens. Talk of a move away from St James’ Park has been played down though, and now a new report has detailed what the Reds are planning to do about their interest in Gordon.

Liverpool have made their mind up over Anthony Gordon

According to 90min, Liverpool are keen to sign a new winger this summer. That would mean that Gordon fits the bill, but a move to Anfield is not on the horizon.

The report from 90min adds that Arne Slot’s side will not be making a move for the Magpies’ number 10, deciding that he will simply cost them too much money and that a deal will be difficult to do.

However, 90min add that Liverpool do really like Gordon and the attributes he brings to the table. However, they will instead admire him from afar.

Liverpool would have been wasting their time approaching Newcastle

Talk of Liverpool bidding for Gordon always felt wide of the mark, given the fact he has not been at Newcastle United very long and would cost an absolute fortune. We are talking about an English player who cost £40million last year, and has since gone on to hit double figures in goals and assists in the Premier League.

Gordon’s stock has gone up dramatically, and he can now be considered in the same light as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes. They are two other Toon player that are untouchable, despite both attracting admiring glances from Europe’s biggest clubs.

For Liverpool, they are right to take their business elsewhere. They have had a great reputation of signing players at the right time before, and a move for Gordon would have gone against that grain. While he would be an outstanding acquisition, he would command a fee around the £100million mark.

That is how much it is going to cost to sign Bruno this summer too, with the 26-year-old having a £100million release clause in his contract. As for Isak, it would take an offer of almost £200million for the Magpies to even consider letting him go.

The club absolutely do not want to sell their best players, and that includes Gordon. Liverpool recognise that, which is why their interest has ended before it ever really started.
