Angel Reese deletes tweet taking jab at Charles Barkley, Caitlin Clark

For myriad reasons, Caitlin Clark is the single-most popular WNBA rookie in recent memory, and her sheer star power has driven a divide within some basketball fans and players debating whether the attention towards her is a little too much.

This week, major NBA figures like LeBron James and Charles Barkley have taken up for Clark. James believes there’s a group of “haters” who don’t like the amount of attention Clark is getting as she starts her professional journey. Meanwhile, Charles Barkley made his stance quite clear on that topic Wednesday night ahead of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals Game 1, where he concurred with LeBron.

“You women out there, y’all petty, man. Hey, LeBron, you’re 100% right on these girls hating on Caitlin Clark,” Barkley said. “Y’all petty, girls. I expect men to be petty because we’re the most insecure group in the world. Y’all should be thanking that girl for getting y’all asses private charters, all the money and visibility she’s bringing to the WNBA. Don’t be petty like dudes.”

Well, that private charter line in particular caught the ire of another prominent WNBA rookie, Angel Reese, who had an interesting message to share after her team, the Chicago Sky, secured their latest victory — and it seemed to be a shot at Barkley’s comments.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Reese said following after the Sky’s win over the New York Liberty: “and that’s on getting a WIN in a packed arena not just cause of one player on our charter flight (kissing emoji). #SKYTOWN.”

Take a look at a screen-grab of that tweet before it was deleted, courtesy of Bleacher Report:

Well, given the mention of a charter flight, the team effort in a win and the fact she deleted the tweet, it certainly seems like this message was a directed shot at Barkley’s Clark comments.

It’s also notable she capitalized the WIN, since the Sky are now 2-1 as compared to the very poor 0-5 start that Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are off to. She even emphasized the fact that the Sky are also packing the arena, surely to illustrate that it’s not just one star in Clark drawing fans, but also a good team like the Sky.

So far this season, Angel Reese herself is averaging just over 12 points and eight rebounds per contest, but shooting just 33% from the field on 11 shots per game. Through just three contests, though, that’s not a very concerning mark just yet.
