‘They were lucky’: Man United player says Man City didn’t deserve to win the CL final against Inter Milan

One Manchester United player has claimed that Manchester City didn’t deserve to beat Inter Milan in last season’s Champions League final.

After winning the Premier League and FA Cup last season, the Citizens made history by winning their first Champions League trophy by beating Inter Milan 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Rodri.

This season has seen the Blues win a fourth Premier League title in a row and book themselves into another FA Cup final, once again against Manchester United, who they beat 2-1 in last season’s final prior to their European win in Istanbul.

Now though, ahead of Saturday’s final at Wembley Stadium, one United player has made a big claim regarding City’s Champions League victory in their final game of the previous season.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the ESPN UK YouTube channel, Andre Onana had this to say about Saturday’s FA Cup final against City and last season’s Champions League final between the Blues and Inter, which the goalkeeper played in.

He said: “It’s a big challenge, it’s the best team in the world at the moment but I think last year we were better than them, they were lucky to win against us.

“But this is football because last season I think we played better than them, but they won the final. At the end of the day, it’s about winning, like you said.

“You can play better, you can have a good or bad season, but when you win trophies this changes everything so it’s a key point for us on Saturday.”

Were City lucky to beat Inter?

Looking back over City’s historic Treble-sealing win against the Italian club, the Blues ended the game with 56% possession but had fewer shots at goal (7 vs 14) and big chances (2 vs 4) than Inter.

With Ederson (5) also making more saves than Onana (3) did throughout the 90 minutes, this could be why the United goalkeeper, who has conceded 82 goals in 50 appearances for the Red Devils this season, thinks City were lucky to win the Champions League.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s side showing real resilience throughout the game and earning themselves an overall match rating of 7.13/10 from SofaScore in comparison to Inter’s rating of 6.66/10, we feel that while they were undoubtedly tested in the match by Inter, they definitely deserved to win the game and secure their Treble.
