Report: Chelsea decision could now hand Nottingham Forest hero Steve Cooper a return to the Premier League

A decision made by Chelsea could now see Steve Cooper return to the Premier League – following his departure from Nottingham Forest in December.

Evangelos Marinakis handed the Welshman his P45 just before Christmas as the Garibaldi sat 17th in the Premier League – on a dreadful run of just one win in 13 Premier League outings.

Now – however – Steve Cooper could be set for a fairly swift return to the Premier League after leaving Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper could join Brentford

A story by the Daily Mail now claims that Chelsea have reduced their managerial shortlist to four names after deciding to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

On the list at Stamford Bridge is Thomas Frank – who has done a superb job at Brentford ever since winning promotion to the Premier League in May 2021.

If Chelsea do hire the Dane, the Daily Mail believe Cooper will become an option for the Bees.

Of course, this saga is still in its infancy – as Chelsea also consider Kieran McKenna, Enzo Maresca and one mystery name – although the Daily Mail add that Frank is open to managing at a higher level after eight years at Brentford.

Therefore, we could well see Cooper return to the City Ground next season, when Brentford travel to Nottingham Forest.

Evangelos Marinakis may undergo his own manager hunt at Nottingham Forest

Chelsea may not be the only Premier League side looking for a new manager this summer.

Despite eventually achieving survival under Nuno Espirito Santo, it was far from a fun watch with just eight wins in 26 outings under the Portuguese tactician.

Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed there is a chance the 50-year-old could leave the City Ground soon, with talks set to take place about his future.

Another Italian journalist – Paolo Bargiggia – even claimed that Nottingham Forest want to replace Nuno with Roberto De Zerbi, who has now left Brighton.

Therefore, Nottingham Forest could soon find themselves in the same boat as Chelsea – only time will tell.
