Monopoly launches new edition based on one of the most popular TV shows of all time

Monopoly has released a brand new edition of their beloved game, with this version targeting the fans of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

When we are not fiddling around with the latest technology to find hidden features and secret hacks, 20% of us are spending our time with our heads buried in a board game. Though taste levels range drastically from person to person, popular picks include Scrabble, chess, Life, Battleship, and contemporary choices like Cards Against Humanity.

There’s a new Monopoly on the block

On Thursday, The Op Games, who make Telestrations, Blank Slate, and Hues and Cues, announced a brand new edition of the bestseller, Monopoly. Though previous inclusions in the line have been inspired by the likes of Stranger Things, Supernatural, and even Pokemon, the new Monopoly is directly based on the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock since the first episode released in 2005, you will know Grey’s Anatomy as a leading medical drama with 39 Primetime Emmy nominations under its belt. Though the cast has changed over the years, Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey and Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd are by far the most notable characters.

“As a TV series making ABC history, we couldn’t think of a better show to bring to the tabletop after almost 20 years,” said Dane Chapin, CEO at The Op. “Grey’s Anatomy has been bringing generations together for decades, as long-time viewers and new binge-watchers dive into the world of surgery, and we can’t wait to give them all a new way to spend time together in their favorite universe over MONOPOLY®: Grey’s Anatomy Edition.”

Unlike the traditional game, Grey’s Anatomy Monopoly requires players to build the best possible surgical team from characters like Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber, Meredith Grey, and Christina Yang. The standard tophat and shoe icons have also been removed and replaced by notable moments from the show like a Ferry boat, Clipboard, First Aid Kit Bag, Scrub Top, Stethoscope, and Scalpel.

The game is intended to be played by two to six players and comes with 28 deed cards that have been renamed to title cards. Houses have also been swapped out for certifications, and hotels are now called specialties. Finally, Community Chest and Chance cards have also been renamed to Dance It Out and You’re My Person cards.

The game is now available to purchase from The OP Games for $44.99.
