Rodeo Star Spencer Wright's Son Wakes Up After Being Declared Brain Dead

The 3-year-old son of rodeo star Spencer Wright has woken up just days after doctors indicated he was brain dead.

“LEVI WOKE UP!” Wright’s wife, Kallie, wrote shortly after midnight Friday, May 24, on Facebook.

“I am shook, we don’t know much but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that and I AM! My baby is so tough," she wrote. “He got a little wild so we had to settle him down again but my heart!”

Levi drove his toy tractor into a Utah river on Tuesday, May 21, and he was not expected to survive. When doctors initially told the Wrights that Levi was brain dead, the family said they intended to “stop care and hold him close until his last breath on earth.”

“Levi’s heart is beating on its own, he has a will to breathe but his sweet little brain was without oxygen too long and there is no coming back from that,” the family said at the time.

But after consulting with another doctor who “felt strongly that we needed to give him more time,” the family decided to wait, spokesperson Mindy Sue Clark said Wednesday.

“We have time for a miracle," the family said, and it turned out they were right. Although Levi is awake now, it remains unclear whether he will make a full recovery.
