'There may be news': Agent of Newcastle star who really wants to stay now speaks out about his future

Newcastle United could be set for a rebuild this summer.

While it remains unclear as to whether or not FFP restrictions looming over Newcastle fully allow them to revamp Eddie Howe’s playing squad, there has been talk of an overhaul.

Indeed, the likes of Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are reportedly facing uncertain futures at St James’ Park.

With the club seemingly looking to raise money through player sales, other players are being tipped to depart even before the club look to strengthen their own squad.

One of those is Miguel Almiron.

The forward is thought to be attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, having also been linked with a move there during the January transfer window.

Almiron, who has frustrated at times this season, certainly looks like a somewhat sellable asset on Tyneside this summer.

The interest is thought to be there and he is perhaps the only forward who could depart for a sizeable sum of money without really impacting Howe’s first-choice frontline.

Harvey Barnes is only a year into his Newcastle career and surely won’t be sold, while the notion of allowing either Anthony Gordon or Alexander Isak to leave is hardly worth thinking about.

For his part, Almiron is thought to want to stay at Newcastle but his agent has now spoken out.

Miguel Almiron’s agent now speaks out about his future

Daniel Campos, who represents the forward, says that while Almiron is happy, there is interest in him from other clubs in the Premier League as well as teams in the Middle East.

He even adds that there may be developments soon.

“Other Premier clubs have asked about him, but Newcastle don’t want to sell him,” he told ABC Cardinal.

“The Arab market is hovering there. There may be news, but he is comfortable.”

Steve Bruce once called Miguel Almiron’s agent an “amateur”

It would be worth taking what Campos says with a pinch of salt.

He wouldn’t be the first agent to try and drive up interest in his client, after all.

Interestingly, Campos is the agent former Toon boss Steve Bruce had a run-in with back in 2020.

After Campos had claimed Almiron could have left Newcastle that summer amid apparent interest from Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid, Bruce labelled him an “amateur”.

“The agent proves to me he is an amateur looking to make a fast buck again,” he told Sky Sports.
