Many Chelsea fans are saying the same thing after Kieran McKenna is linked with the manager’s job

Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna has definitely been one of the most intriguing names linked with the Chelsea manager’s job. In fact, some Blues fans are saying the same thing when it comes to the idea of him coming to Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea hierarchy are searching for a new head coach following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure by mutual consent.

Kieran McKenna, who’s aged just 38, has been a popular name in the media since Pochettino’s exit.

The Times claimed on Thursday that Ipswich boss McKenna is attracting potential interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Brighton. Apparently, the Blues would be willing to meet his demands and there’s also a £6m compensation fee.

Many Chelsea fans agree on Kieran McKenna

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media agree that while McKenna is a talented upcoming manager, he’s not yet ready to take on a job as big as Blues head coach.

The Northern Irishman has done a stellar job guiding Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. He’s never managed a game in the top division before, though.

Here are some Chelsea fans on X suggesting that McKenna isn’t the right fit for them at this moment in time:

One fan said: “I think right now this job is too big of a step for a young blossoming manager like himself.”

Another wrote: “Mckenna, my advice. Don’t come to Chelsea. Don’t let your reputation be ruined like [Graham] Potter. United and Brighton are better choices.”

A fourth posted: “McKenna the better manager [over Enzo Maresca], but he’s not ready for Chelsea at this stage.”

Another said: “I think Chelsea fans really need to calm down with McKenna. I’m not sure he’s ready, but he’s certainly not that BAD of an option. The guy has won with inferior talent.”

One commented: “McKenna is a good manager I just don’t think he’s ready for a club like Chelsea it’s not easy being manager of Chelsea.”

Friday night development on Ipswich manager

The Times reports on Friday night that McKenna will wait on Man United before deciding his future.

It is explained that Erik ten Hag is expected to be sacked at Old Trafford after Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Despite interest from Chelsea and Brighton, McKenna wants to see if Ten Hag loses his job at the weekend.

The young coach is a boyhood Man United fan and worked as their assistant manager before carving out his own success in Ipswich colours. Could there soon be a return to Manchester for him, though?
