After pledging to California in late March, Hughson (Calif.) three-star quarterback Robert McDaniel decommitted from the Golden Bears late Friday night.

McDaniel is the No. 762 overall prospect and No. 49 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 63 player in California.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the University of California and the coaching staff for what they have done for my family and I,” McDaniel wrote on social media. “After much thought and consideration I have decided that I am going to de-commit from Cal Football.”

McDaniel’s decommitment leaves seven recruits in Cal’s 2025 class: Minneapolis Edina three-star tight end Meyer Swinney, Adelanto (Calif.) Aquinas three-star running back Jojo Solis, Los Alamitos (Calif.) three-star running back Anthony League, Las Vegas Skyrdige three-star IOL Ben Howard, Houston Alief Hastings three-star defensive lineman Ikechukwu Okafor, Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point three-star safety Kaden Cook and Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Crean Lutheran three-star linebacker Carter Jones.
