Best places to retire ranked: 'Fantastic' areas which offer 'the best value for money' in the UK

A new report has revealed the top 10 best areas in the UK for Britons to retire.

Before moving away, Britons are urged to consider their state pension, and private pensions to ensure they have enough money to support their lifestyles in a new place.

Insurance experts at Howden Insurance have conducted an in-depth ranking of various areas of the United Kingdom to uncover the best location to spend retirement.

These ratings were decided using the following metrics: overall satisfaction rating, the typical cost of a home in each area, local crime rate, proximity to parks, and distance to essential facilities.

The results of the study uncovered the best places to spend retirement, revealing that Pendle has reached the top spot.

The district in Lancashire is known for its picturesque landscapes and historical significance giving it an overall rating of 80.93.

The wellbeing of Pendle has been recorded with a score of 8.10, which is the highest wellbeing ranking out of the top 10.

Hyndburn and Stoke-on-Trent place second and third, respectively.

Hynburn is also a Lancashire, known for its industrial heritage and parks, whereas Stoke on Trent claims the title of the shortest distance to a park or green space.

In fourth place is Newcastle-under-Lyme. With an overall rating of 67.33, the historic market town in Staffordshire boasts a mix of medieval and Georgian architecture.

Ranking in at fifth is South Tyneside with an overall rating of 66.79.

The area is located in Tyne and Wear and has the lowest average time, out of the top 10, it takes to get to key services, at just 14.05 minutes.

In sixth place is Hastings with an overall rating of 66.78.

Homeowners can expect a low price for a home to retire, with £261,075 as an average.
