Cannes Film Festival to conclude with gala award ceremony

The main prizes are due be awarded at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on Saturday evening with 22 entries competing for awards such as the Palme d'Or for best film.

Trophies for best director, best actress and best actor are also to be awarded. The Grand Jury Prize is the second most important award of the festival.

Winners are selected by an international jury chaired this year by "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig.

The awards ceremony is to be hosted by French actress Camille Cottin, who first became known in 2013 for her portrayal of a shameless Parisian woman in a hidden camera series.

Last year, the courtroom thriller "Anatomy of a Fall," by French film director Justine Triet, starring German actress Sandra Hüller, won the Palme d'Or.

The Cannes Film Festival, held annually in the southern French resort, is one of the most prestigious film festivals globally, showcasing a diverse selection of international films.

It also attracts industry professionals, celebrities and journalists from around the world. Dating back to the era of icons such as Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot, Cannes has been synonymous with French Riviera glamour.
