Why Arsenal fans will be hoping Man City beat Man Utd in FA Cup final despite title agony

Although Arsenal are historical rivals with Manchester United, they are currently competing at the top with their rivals Manchester City.

There is a deep-rooted dislike from Arsenal fans towards Man United, stemming back to the days when Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger would go head to head in some of the best title races in Premier League history.

The rivalry between the two sides peaked in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Arsenal and United were the two best teams in the country, and the clashes between the two sides contained some of the most iconic moments in English football.

Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira would be at each other’s throats, and some games saw the players on both sides struggle to control their rage as true passion and hatred was on display.

Now Arsenal are back competing at the top again, but this time it is Pep Guardiola’s Man City denying them silverware in close-knit title races, and Arsenal fans ended this season somewhat frustrated that despite an outstanding campaign, they still finished just below City again.

However, ahead of the FA Cup final between Man City and Man United, Arsenal fans will still be hoping for Guardiola’s side to triumph, despite the heartbreak of losing out on the title to them.

Arsenal will qualify for Community Shield if Man City beat Man United in FA Cup final

Given that Arsenal finished second in the Premier League, the FA Cup final will decide who plays in the Community Shield to open next season.

If Man City repeat their FA Cup final result from last season, in which they beat United 2-1, they will face Arsenal at Wembley in August again.

However, if United pull off a shock win, they will set up another Manchester derby in London as they will qualify for the Community Shield ahead of Arsenal.

Arsenal beat Man City in the Community Shield last year after finishing second, with Leandro Trossard scoring a last-minute equaliser, before the Gunners won on penalties, and fans will be hoping for another Wembley trip after what was an outstanding day last year.

Arsenal have an esteemed history in the FA Cup, winning the competition 14 times, which is more than any other side in the country.

Arsene Wenger won three in his final five years at the club, and Mikel Arteta won it in his first season, but Arsenal have not even reached a final since.

Man United are currently on 12 FA Cups in total, and they can close the gap to Arsenal with a win against City.

Their opponents have won six of the last seven Premier League titles, but in their history, they have won just seven FA Cups, and Arsenal fans would prefer it if their position at the top remained comfortable.
