Report: Arsenal could now sign 'special' player for just £80m; he wants Premier League switch

Arsenal are pushing on with plans to sign new players this summer and they try their luck with a top target for £20m less than his release-clause.

The Gunners are set to be active in the market this summer after missing out on the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta is thought to want to move certain players on while strengthening key positions as well.

One of those positions in need of additions is in central midfield. Arsenal have Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Thomas Partey as their main options but there is an acceptance another number six could be useful.

Different names have been linked, including Martin Zubimendi.

But another midfielder, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, is also on Arsenal’s radar and according to reports, the Gunners could try and land him for cheaper than his release-clause.

Arsenal could try £80m Bruno Guimaraes deal

According to The Evening Standard, who cite reports from Brazil, Guimaraes’ agents and reps are inviting offers from English clubs over the likes of PSG.

It’s believed the Brazilian midfielder prefers the idea of staying in the Premier League if he can, with Arsenal and Manchester City the two most likely destinations for Bruno.

Of course, Newcastle will have a say in proceedings and it’s reported in the same report that the Mags will demand the full £100m release-clause to even consider letting Guimaraes go.

However, it’s further added that some clubs believe Guimaraes might be available for as little as £80m, a full £20m less than his release option.

Arsenal, then, might end up paying less than they did for Declan Rice if this is the case.

Guimaraes perfect for Arsenal

As good as Jorginho and Thomas Partey were last season at times for the Gunners, it’s clear as day that another top operator is needed if they’re going to push City again.

Bruno Guimaraes has shown over the years with Newcastle that he is in that bracket of top midfielder and Eddie Howe recently lauded the former Lyon man as a ‘special‘ talent.

Howe, of course, wants to keep Guimaraes at St James’ Park.

But there’s money and FFP to be factored in and if Howe wants to further improve his squad this summer then one big sale might be needed.

Arsenal, then, might just have an opening here.
