Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to hire Vincent Kompany as their next manager.
With Thomas Tuchel set to step down this summer, Bayern failed with public pursuits of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick, before seeing an approach for Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner knocked back by the Eagles.
Bayern also failed with an attempt to convince Tuchel to stay on, but they have now finally found someone to sit in the dugout next season, with Sky in Germany stating a deal has been struck with Burnley to hire Kompany.
The Bundesliga giants have agreed to pay a compensation fee of between €10m (£8.5m) and €12m (£10.2m) to hire Kompany, who will sign a three-year contract at the Allianz Arena.
Kompany does have some knowledge of German football, having turned out for Hamburg for two years before his switch to Manchester City in 2008.
Current City boss Pep Guardiola has publicly backed Kompany to take charge of the current Premier League champions in the future.
"I'm happy the link has happened for Bayern to Vinny," Guardiola said. "I have a huge opinion about Vinny, doesn't matter the relegation with Burnley. What I felt playing against him and knowing him, I have the highest opinion of his work, personality, his knowledge of the game, how he handles the media.
"I'd love Bayern to take the best decision. I love that club. I'm in love with Bayern Munich for many many reasons. Hopefully take the best decision, if they believe Vinny is the right decision, for Munich they will have a guy to support unconditionally.
"For sure he will come [back to City]."
