I’ve been using TikTok’s snail slime for a year and I love it

After being drawn in by unique ingredients and the fact it’s part of the South Korean skincare wave taking over, I bit the bullet and purchased snail slime back in 2023.

I am guilty of folding under collective peer pressure and purchasing everything and anything from the TikTok shop. If it’s a so-called “latest must-have” product, then I’m in. A recent example would be the Trader Joe’s Tote Bag, which I am sadly yet to purchase.

Skincare snail slime is still super popular

Though a few products on the market now match the snail slime skincare description, the show’s star is actually the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. If you want to go the extra mile, the South Korean skincare brand also makes an all-in-one cream.

The gel-like substance gained massive support on social media, largely because of the presence of antioxidants like vitamins A and E. There is also the suggestion that snail slime encourages collagen production for de-aging, which is always a good thing.

I first picked up the snail mucin through the TikTok shop in 2023, though if I am being honest, it had less to do with the ingredients and more to do with jumping on a trend.

The consistency was as you might expect, like a snail had just slithered across your hand leaving nothing but a slimy trail and a sense of disgust. However, that gross feeling quickly dissipated once the product had sunken into my skin. My face felt soft, and plump, much like the glass-skin everyone is striving to perfect at the moment.

After a year of consistently using the product, I can honestly say that my skincare routine would not be the same without it. For me, it’s the bridge between my serums and moisturizer, a way of prepping my skin for maximum hydration.

I’m not the only one to report great results

Admittedly, experts are a little divided on whether or not the snail slime skincare product is actually worth the money, with some suggesting it’s a super gimmicky fad. In contrast, there are those who have thrown their weight behind the unique product.

“I would recommend it as a dermatologist,” dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffy told Yahoo Lifestyle. “It’s tolerated by most people. It also plays really well with other ingredients, meaning we are not aware of a lot of interactions that would limit its use with other products that we might use on the skin.”

Though experts might be divided on the subject, consumer reports are largely positive and packed full of grossly specific details.

“This is the only thing that saved my skin from drying out after using salicylic acid. I love it… I wake up with glowing skin every time,” one person wrote.

Another person exclaimed: “This product has been an absolute game changer for me, I have eczema and it has healed my skin better than anything I have ever used.”
