'As a player': Trent Alexander-Arnold gives first reaction to Arne Slot being named new Liverpool head coach

After Liverpool officially announced the news on Monday, Arne Slot is preparing to begin life on Merseyside.

Slot has been chosen as the man to follow on from Jurgen Klopp and take Liverpool into a new era.

It won’t be an easy task to step into the shoes of one of the best and most loved manager’s in Liverpool’s history. But judging by all that’s been said about the Dutch coach, he sounds ready for it.

The decision to bring Slot in was taken by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes. Given Edwards’ previous track-record in recruitment, Liverpool fans have no reason to doubt that the 45-year-old will be a good choice.

One of Slot’s first tasks at Anfield will be securing the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. With the situation a little up in the air, Trent has now given his take on the appointment of his new head coach.

Trent Alexander-Arnold offers Arne Slot reaction

Upon hearing news of Slot’s emergence as the front-runner to take over from Klopp, the Liverpool squad were said to be ‘delighted.’

However, Virgil van Dijk is the only one so far to publicly react to the former Feyenoord’s boss’ appointment.

Now though, the captain has been joined in giving his verdict by his vice. Collared by Sky Sports at the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday, Alexander-Arnold was asked if he’s expecting a ‘smooth transition’ away from Klopp.

“I hope so!” Trent enthused. “I’ve got trust in the club and who we’ve appointed.

“As a player that’s all you can ask for, to have trust in what the higher ups have brought in and I’m sure it’ll be a smooth transition.”

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool?

It’s good news that Alexander-Arnold is enthusiastic about the appointment of Slot.

However, there does remain a question mark over whether the 25-year-old will even be around to see the new boss take charge.

Trent’s contract has been the subject of much worry amongst the Liverpool fanbase. Although he’s one of their most important players, the right-back now has just one year left on his deal. It’s a dangerous position to be in.

This has led to suggestions that Real Madrid could come knocking this summer. If FSG can’t agree a deal with Alexander-Arnold, then they’d have to give serious thought to a big offer.

For now, the situation appears to be calm. That will give hope that an agreement is not too far away.

In the meantime, Slot will be planning ahead with Trent onboard. We can’t wait for it.
