US demands explanations from Russia over its plans to move borders in Baltic Sea

The US demands that Russia provide an explanation regarding the so-called change of borders with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea, according to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Miller stated that the US stands in solidarity with NATO and EU partners regarding Russia's actions and provocations on the Baltic borders.

The US State Department demands explanations from Moscow regarding its order.

"Russia is now sowing confusion on NATO/EU borders. We stand in solidarity with our Allies in the Baltic states and Baltic Sea in the face of recent provocations and call on Russia to explain its actions," Miller said.

He also added that the United States is closely monitoring the situation with its allies.

What happened

On May 21, a decree appeared on the Russian government's website regarding the alleged unilateral change of the borders with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea. The Russian Ministry of Defense proposed the changes. However, after gaining attention, the document disappeared from the website.

On Thursday, May 23, Estonia reported that Russian border guards had removed buoys on the Narva River's Estonian side.

Finland stated that Russia is testing"NATO members with provocations at the border in the Baltic Sea.
