Wayne Rooney says Man Utd player was 'the standout' during FA Cup win, loved what he did

Wayne Rooney has picked out one Manchester United player for praise as the club celebrates winning the FA Cup.

Manchester United shocked the entire nation on Saturday by beating Man City 2-1 in the FA Cup final to lift the famous trophy.

It was an incredible moment for Erik ten Hag and his entire team, with the two goals coming from arguably the biggest success stories under the Dutchman.

Alejandro Garnacho got number one before the lead was doubled by Kobbie Mainoo with a late City strike little more than a consolation, as both United wonderkids made history.

United concluded the season with silverware, and for Wayne Rooney, one player was the clear standout.

Wayne Rooney singles out one Manchester United player for praise

During the final, United legend and top goalscorer in history, Rooney, was on punditry for BBC One.

Speaking at half-time, he had nothing but praise for one United player who ended up being the player of the match.

“Mainoo, Kobbie Mainoo”, Rooney began to rave.

“Take the goal out of it, the composure he showed on the ball in such a big game, for such a young lad, is incredible and his performance, first-half, has been the standout performance.”

This couldn’t be more true as Mainoo was dominant in midfield and bossed the park against arguably the world’s best midfielder in Rodri.

This sentiment was shared by ITV’s commentary team as Lee Dixon raved about Mainoo as well. Explaining that the 19-year-old is a shoo-in for the England squad now.

“100%. Absolutely. He is not a prospect anymore. He is already the real deal for me.”

Kobbie Mainoo must be built around this summer

Mainoo has proven in seven months of being a first-team player for United that he’s the real deal and is set for an incredible career.

He’s done his part by helping United to silverware, and now United must do their part and build Mainoo a midfield which matches his talent.

The 19-year-old should be the centre of this club and we have to sign him a partner who can help him reach new heights.

With players like Mainoo in midfield, the future for this club is very, very bright. Superb footballer and we cannot wait to see him
