Rattled Pep Guardiola gives bitter response when asked if Manchester United were the better team in FA Cup final

Manchester United came through at Wembley to defeat City to win the 2024 FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag‘s Red Devils came out fired up against rivals City and scored two first half goals to take a lead against the reigning Premier League champions.

City fought back in the second half but were not good enough to tie the game and Manchester United triumphed 2-1.

It sparked memorable scenes for Erik ten Hag’s men, after an extremely difficult season. It ended on a high, winning another piece of silverware.

Pep Guardiola is not happy

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola looked rattled on the sidelines throughout and after the game, he gave a very spiky reaction when asked about the match.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he was asked if Manchester United were the better team, and responded: “No.”

Elaborating, he added: “The second half we were there all the game. Manchester United are always a transition team.

“First half we struggled a bit but second half we were better. In general it as a good performance for a final.”

Manchester United deserved the win

Manchester United did deserve the victory, the scoreline did not lie. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored the goals, and there were terrific performances all over the pitch at Wembley.

Erik ten Hag out-thought Guardiola tactically, while City’s players did not step up. Kevin de Bruyne was substituted on 53 minutes.

United actually had more shots on target (five) to City’s four, and the team simply looked more ‘up for it’, more ‘together’ and more determined to get the win, and the result was fully justified.

City can console themselves with their title win, but this certainly ends their season on a miserable note.

There are only celebrations on the Red side of Manchester tonight.
