For picking a fight with Kyle Busch, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. earned himself a $75,000 fine from NASCAR and his crew was penalized as well. This week, Stenhouse and JTG Daugherty are unsure if they are going to appeal the penalties and fine.

This weekboth Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have been asked about the incident on track and off the track at North Wilkesboro. They seem to still be pretty far apart from one another on a unified understanding.

Right now, the JTG Daugherty team hasn’t really told Stenhouse about their plans moving forward. NASCAR hasn’t really spoken to him either.

“No, they haven’t,” Stenhouse said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “We had our meeting in here this morning just kind of go over all of the updates like we do every three or four weeks but no nobody’s talked to me.”

NASCAR won’t comment until the fine is paid or the appeal is filed, apparently.

“No, they did not. They told us they weren’t going to be able to answer any questions bout it until it’s paid or the appeal happens or whatever. So, they acted like it didn’t happen.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. doesn’t know if his team will appeal. Right now, they just want to compete and do well at Charlotte.

“Yeah we’re still undecided. I think we spent all week really focused on, you know, just racing here at Charlotte and what we needed to do to run well here and we got to next week to kinda figure that out. Our main focus was just getting back on track and making sure we have a strong run Sunday.”

The team has until next week to decide on an appeal. Not too much longer.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. happy to have the public’s support

The good news, Stenhouse Jr. seems to have the popular vote on his side. Not against Busch, necessarily, although you could argue that as well. But in the way that the fine was handed out. Fans and drivers were against the $75k bill.

“Yeah I mean I think for the most part the whole industry and the fanbase has kind of weighed in on the side that I feel like I fall on. Luckily for us we’re not having to say a whole lot.

“We talk as a race team at the shop and things like that how we feel about the situation and it’s cool to see Dale Jr., Chase Elliott, most of, I’d say 90% of the Cup field kind of think the same way and seems to be about 95% of our fanbase think the same way. So, that’s nice to have all them in our corner. I don’t know if that helps or not it’s still 75 grand that I have to pay. But it does make you feel good at least most the people in the industry are feeling the same way.”
