Austin Super Regional delayed as centerfield wall panel dislodges, fan cleans up trash on field

Game 2 of the No. 1 Texas versus No. 16 Texas A&M Austin Super Regional was delayed for a little more than 10 minutes when a centerfield panel popped loose at McCombs Field. And it appeared a pile of garbage at the base of the panel might have contributed to it’s dislocation.

Whatever the cause, a hero appeared in a grey Texas T-shirt, as apparently a fan ran from behind the fence, on to the field, and helped clean up the trash. After filling up a black garbage bag with various refuse — empty water bottles, tinfoil wrapping for hot dogs, an empty Modelo bottle — the hero amid the Texas heat helped secure the panel back in place before jogging off.

And all this happened amid a 6th inning rally where Texas took a 6-5 lead after trailing, 5-1, to start the inning. Trailing in the Super Regional 1-0 after Game 1, Texas must win on Saturday and then again to advance to the Women’s College World Series.
