When police decided to pull over a man in Downham, they subsequently discovered that he was drug-driving.
Carl Harris, 43, of Nightingale Walk in Denver, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted driving above the specified drug limit.
Prosecutor Abdul Khan explained the offence took place on November 17 last year, when Harris was pulled over by police in McDonald’s car park in Downham.
After he was pulled over, Harris admitted he was a recreational cocaine user and a roadside drugs test came back positive.
He was arrested and taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre where he provided a sample of 92mcg of benzoylecgonine - a cocaine breakdown - per litre of blood. The legal limit to drive is 50mcg.
In mitigation, George Sorrell explained that as a result of committing this offence, Harris would lose his job as a support worker.
“This is a man of previous good character, he is a support worker, it is unfortunate that his job requires him to drive,” said Mr Sorrell.
For the offence, Harris was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £120.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £48 and court costs of £40.
