Chelsea are reportedly impressed with £60m star, he would be such an upgrade on Noni Madueke - opinion

Chelsea are without a manager right now following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit by mutual consent.

Nevertheless, Chelsea still seem to have their transfer targets heading into the summer window.

They could do with a new striker, with Nicolas Jackson having been the only recognised centre-forward in their squad during the second half of this season, but their attack looks to be in good shape overall.

Chelsea scored 77 goals in the Premier League compared to the 38 they managed the campaign before. Yet the Blues could still strengthen out wide this summer.

Chelsea’s current wide options

The wingers Chelsea currently have at the moment are not bad ones, which is why they were able to score so many goals, or at least significantly more than what they managed last season, this term.

Cole Palmer, for example, netted 22 times and registered 11 assists.

Mykhailo Mudryk, one of the most expensive signings in Chelsea’s history, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke were nowhere near as effective as Palmer but still did their part.

Madueke scored five goals and recorded a couple of assists in 23 Premier League appearances. The 22-year-old showed that he definitely has something to offer the team, but Chelsea could be about to upgrade on him.

Michael Olise would be an upgrade on Noni Madueke

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea will make a move for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, who could cost £60m this summer.

The same outlet claims that Chelsea have been impressed by Olise’s goals, assists and consistency.

This season, the wide man scored 10 goals and provided six assists in just 19 Premier League appearances. During the 2022/23 campaign, he managed two and 11 respectively in 37 outings.

Olise and Madueke are both fantastic dribblers. As per FBref, the former has ranked in the 86th percentile for successful take-ons among attacking midfielders and wingers over the last year, while the latter has ranked in the 93rd percentile.

However, Olise’s end product, in a much weaker team, seems to be a bit better. At Chelsea, then, the Palace star could perhaps go up another level and prove to be an upgrade on Madueke, who remains a solid option for the right wing whether Chelsea can land Olise in the upcoming transfer window or not.
