Aston Villa loanee Nicolo Zaniolo drops interesting new update on his immediate future

Aston Villa will have a decision to make about several players ahead of next season, with loanee Nicolo Zaniolo now providing an interesting update on his future.

Unai Emery and Monchi will be hopeful of conducting a summer as strong as the 2023 transfer window, as Aston Villa eye top-quality reinforcements on their road to the Champions League.

Securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League returned the Villans back amongst Europe’s elite, making the summer crucial to bolster the squad ahead of the challenges the 2024/25 campaign will bring.

As well as incomings, Villa will have to spare a thought for those expected to leave the club, with Philippe Coutinho the latest to have his future speculated ahead of the transfer window opening.

Another player whose future is unlikely to be at Villa Park is Nicolo Zaniolo, who spent the season on loan at Villa from Galatasaray.

While the 24-year-old’s agent failed to rule out a Premier League stay, the forward himself has now spoken about his immediate future in what makes for interesting reading from a Villa point of view.

What Aston Villa loanee Nicolo Zaniolo has said about his future

In an interview with Italian outlet, La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zaniolo shared how his future may look after the summer, in what will be a gruelling time for the Italy international.

After missing out on his country’s quest for Euro 2020 glory due to injury, history has repeated itself this year, as the Villa loanee suffered a broken metatarsal, ruling him out of this summer’s tournament.

Still, the attacker has a decision to make during the interval, which he explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport amid interest from Serie A side, Fiorentina.

“I still don’t know how many possibilities there are for me to return in Serie A, I’m happy to hear about Fiorentina but it’s still early to know where I’m going to play.

“It’s all open for clubs in Italy and also abroad.”

While it would be considered unlikely that Zaniolo will return to Villa on a permanent basis, there is no evidence to rule that circumstance out although, his form at Villa Park will leave Monchi and Emery with questions to answer.

Nicolo Zaniolo failed to impress at Aston Villa

After seeing his career derailed due to injury so early into his footballing journey, there was hope that Zaniolo would rediscover his quality under Emery’s guidance over 2023/24.

Unfortunately, his season ended having only secured nine starts in the Premier League, where he netted two goals and failed to provide an assist, seeing his time at Villa amount to nothing of great significance.

It’s a shame for both the player and Villa, who would have both wished for a lot more from the loan, with Zaniolo’s quality undeniable when at full fitness.

Suffering two ACL injuries by the age of 24 is a damning reality for very few footballers, with there now hope that wherever the attacker’s future takes him, he can rediscover his past levels that see him so highly-regarded on the European stage.
