Report: Chelsea won't sell 'hugely-talented' player for less than £35m

Chelsea are not budging on their asking price for one of their players.

Because of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, the likelihood is that Chelsea are going to have to get rid of assets to generate some money.

However, it does not look like they are going to be bullied into selling players at a cut price.

In terms of who could go this summer, there are quite a few candidates.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja and Ian Maatsen have all spent time away from Stamford Bridge this season, suggesting that they do not have futures at the club. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly preparing a £21m offer for Maatsen.

Chelsea want asking price to be met

If Dortmund want to sign Maatsen permanently, then it looks like they are going to have to offer more than £21m for the left-back.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea will not sell Maatsen for less than £35m and are confident that the German club will eventually stump up the cash.

The release clause in Maatsen’s contract is said to be set at that amount of money.

A permanent move to Dortmund certainly does look possible. The Dutchman has already refused to rule out the possibility of staying there.

Will Borussia Dortmund pay £35m for Ian Maatsen?

His loan spell there has gone so well. Not only is Maatsen getting game time, which was the reason for his move, but he is also making an impact.

The 22-year-old made 15 starts in the Bundesliga, scored one goal and grabbed a couple of assists, which is really not bad for a full-back.

Maatsen has also netted in the Champions League after making six appearances.

Everything is pointing towards the Netherlands U21 international, who has been described as a “hugely-talented” player by Coventry City goalkeeper Simon Moore, staying at Dortmund. However, they are going to have to offer a bit more than £21m to land him it seems.
