Armed police called to Tonbridge Road in Maidstone after reports of a ‘gang’ using ‘weapons’

Armed police were called to a main road after people “wearing balaclavas” and using “weapons” were seen entering a property.

Officers and a helicopter were sent to Tonbridge Road, in Maidstone, following reports of a gang in the area.

Armed police and police dog handlers arrived at around 8.30pm yesterday (Saturday, May 25).

A witness said a girl was heard shouting and a man was seen with a baseball bat.

She added: "We saw a motorbike turn up with the passenger wearing a balaclava.

"The man in a balaclava went into a house then lots of armed police turned up and police dogs."

There were reports on social media that suggested police were called when a gang armed with an axe/gun tried to steal a motorbike.

Police have been contacted for further information.
