Man Utd legend thinks 'complete' £52m attacker Arsenal want will soon become 'world-class'

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has suggested that a rumoured Arsenal transfer target could soon become ‘world-class’.

The Gunners are set for a big summer with Mikel Arteta expected to bring in a number of signings to take Arsenal to the next level, with Athletic Club star Nico Williams linked with a move this weekend.

With Crystal Palace playmaker Michael Olise also rumoured with a move to Arsenal in recent days, the Gunners are clearly after a certain profile of player in regards to wide-attackers this summer.

And Van Nistelrooy has suggested that one such figure linked with Arsenal could become incredible.

Van Nistelrooy tips Xavi Simons to become one of the best in the world

Speaking to Marca, the United legend made the claim that PSG winger Xavi Simons could become ‘world-class’ at his current pace, with Arsenal reportedly interested in signing the Dutch international.

With Simons set to leave Paris this summer having spent a year out on loan with RB Leipzig, Arsenal could be the lucky club who end up signing the 22-year-old, who Van Nistelrooy has high hopes for.

The Dutch coach said: “Xavi Simons is in the spotlight, he is not a new discovery, but I think that he will continue to grow to a world-class level. I had him at PSV, now he is at Leipzig taking his next steps. I say that he is a player for a great team even as a starter.

“He has character, he is professional, he is focused on getting the most out of his potential. And then he has quality, he is very complete, he knows how to do many things well. He can dribble, he scores goals, he is great in transitions, he plays in small spaces. I see him as very complete.”

Arsenal have to start putting in work now to sign Simons

With ten goals and 15 assists this season in all competitions, Simons enjoyed quite the year with Leipzig, a feat even more impressive when you factor in the number of positions the winger played for the German club.

Likened to Tomas Rosicky, the £52m playmaker could be a dream signing for Arsenal this summer given what Arteta is in the market for when it comes to a wide-attacker.

Yet with clubs lurking for the Dutch international, work needs to start now for Simons, who could be the missing piece in Arsenal’s attack heading into the new season.
