Report: Liverpool hold a 'strong' interest in £43m defender; they've watched him in person recently

Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are taking shape ahead of Arne Slot’s arrival and a new defender is very much on their radar.

The Reds are looking to make a fast start to the summer window and Slot is expected to get the backing of FSG to make a few new signings.

A number of players have already been linked with a move to Anfield.

Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville is among the players being linked, while midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is also on the Reds’ list of potential targets.

However, it’s not just forward thinking players the Reds are keen on and according to reports, Eintracht Frankfurt start William Pacho is a player Liverpool hold a strong interest in.

Liverpool very keen on signing William Pacho

According a report from 90Min, which features information from journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool want to sign a new centre-half this summer.

It’s claimed within the report that Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah is now considered off the list of options for the Reds.

However, Frankfurt defender Pacho is very much a player on the radar of FSG and there’s a chance Liverpool do make a move for him.

This update on Pacho comes amid reports previously that both Liverpool and Manchester United have watched the defender in person over the last six months.

Pacho could be available for around £43m over the summer.

Liverpool need a new centre-back

While Virgil van Dijk has held the fort this season, its clear as day that the Reds need a new defender to play alongside the Dutchman.

Joel Matip is leaving, Joe Gomez has been used more as a full-back and Ibou Konate continues to struggle with injuries.

Yes, the emergence of Jarrell Quansah has been a real blessing and he could well be the man Arne Slot goes with next to Van Dijk.

But if the money is there and Liverpool are serious about improving, then a signing like Pacho makes plenty of sense.
