No. 2 seed Nebraska is set to battle No. 8 seed Penn State in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament championship on Sunday after defeating No. 3 seed Indiana twice on Saturday in the semifinal round.

Facing elimination, the Huskers defeated the Hoosiers 4-2 in the first matchup, which was scheduled for a 9 a.m. start time, and never trailed. They went on to play later in the day where they further separated themselves from Indiana with a 10-4 victory. Once again, Indiana never held a lead.

Nebraska head coach Will Bolt led the Huskers to a Big Ten regular season title back in 2021 — and a win against the Nittany Lions on Sunday would give Bolt his first conference tournament championship as a coach for his alma mater.

“You know what you’re playing for,” Bolt said postgame on Saturday night. “You have a chance to play for a championship and it’s exciting. I want — the crowd tonight was awesome. Incredible. It was close to, I think it was 11,000 [fans] here. 10 a.m. [CT] game tomorrow. Let’s see if we can get more than that. That would that would be awesome. I know the guys would get fired up by that. Early morning game, get the tailgate going at about six o’clock in the morning, show up and be loud.”

Bolt was a second baseman for Nebraska from 1999-2002, has three Big 12 Championships (1999, 2000, 2001) under his belt as a player — not to mention being a part of two of the three Huskers squads to ever make it to the College World Series in 2001 and 2002.

Nebraska moved over to the Big Ten in 2012, however, and has never won a title in its current league. They were runner-ups in 2013, 2014 and 2019, but have not tasted similar success since.

After the Huskers were bounced by No. 7 seed Ohio State 15-2 in seven innings during their opening game of this year’s Big Ten Tournament, Nebraska has ripped four-straight wins since Tuesday — including a 12-5 win over the Buckeyes during their second meeting three days later. Meanwhile, Penn State is 3-0 in the tournament after besting top-seeded Illinois to open the tournament and then taking down No. 4 seed Michigan twice in three days to make their way into Sunday’s final.

The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT and will air live on the Big Ten Network.
