‘I saw’: Ted Kravitz spotted Alpine boss speaking to 0-race driver after Esteban Ocon ‘decision’ warning

The start of the Monaco Grand Prix couldn’t have gone much worse for the Alpine team.

After a very promising qualifying session on Saturday, they only had one car available to take the restart after the first-lap red flag.

Ted Kravitz was speaking on Ted’s Notebook and noticed Alpine team principal Bruno Famin in conversation with one very interested party after the comments he made in the race.

It ended up being a positive afternoon for Pierre Gasly who scored his first points of the season, finishing 10.

Esteban Ocon took to social media before the race had even finished for his part in the crash that ended his involvement in the Grand Prix.

However, he may be more worried by the sight of Bruno Famin speaking to Jack Doohan after the race in Monaco.

The pair were spotted on the Sky Sports F1 (26/5 5:05pm) broadcast, but Kravitz provided some further details on the situation.

Alpine boss Bruno Famin spotted talking to Jack Doohan after the Monaco Grand Prix

The incident that led to anger within the Alpine camp could have been easily avoided.

A huge crash between Sergio Perez and the two Haas cars meant that at least a safety car if not a red flag was imminent.

However, Ocon spotted an opportunity to dive down the inside of Gasly just before heading into the tunnel.

It can’t be denied that the space was there to try and make a move but as soon as you make a mistake passing your teammate you’re asking for trouble.

Gasly’s front-right wheel sent Ocon flying into the air and moments later the race was neutralised by a red flag.

Ocon had to retire from the race and Gasly had damage that he ultimately dealt with to come in tenth.

However, the incident prompted Famin to address the press and have a candid conversation with Doohan in Monaco.

Bruno Famin makes his feelings clear to Esteban Ocon

Speaking to Canal+ after the incident, Famin said: “It’s sad to see this kind of incident.

“It’s exactly what we didn’t want to see. Esteban’s attack was totally out of circumstances.

“It was exactly what we didn’t want to see and we’re going to draw the consequences. We’re going to make a tough decision.

“If we were fighting for a podium finish at the end of the race, why not, and still… But there, on the first lap, at Le Portier, frankly, it wasn’t the place to make an attack, leaving zero room for his teammate.”

Ted Kravitz shares what he spotted Bruno Famin doing after Esteban Ocon crash

Explaining the aftermath of Ocon’s accident, Kravitz said: “[Bruno] Famin said a decision will be made, [Esteban] Ocon has put a tweet out saying that’s absolutely my fault.

“But the team aren’t letting us even try to talk to Bruno Famin about what this direct consequence will be for Esteban Ocon.

“I will say that I saw Famin on the roof of the Alpine pit building call Jack Doohan the reserve driver over for a chat, they had a chat, I don’t know what the chat was about.

“Then Jack Doohan left and went down the stairs.

“Now, I know that’s not exactly [Bob] Woodward and [Carl] Bernstein and Watergate but it’s all I’ve got.

“Does that mean that Famin is going to penalise Esteban Ocon for doing what he told him not to do by benching him for Canada? Maybe.

“Is the going to put Doohan in the car? Maybe. Is he going to put Victor Martins in the car? Probably not, it would be Doohan.

“How will the Esteban Ocon camp feel about that if it does happen? I should think, pretty bad.

“Things are afoot at the Alpine team.”

Jack Doohan could be handed unlikely Alpine F1 opportunity

It’s not known at this stage what Famin and Doohan were speaking about in Monaco, but the Australian is chomping at the bit for his Formula 1 opportunity.

The 21-year-old raced in Formula 2 last season and finished 3 in the Drivers’ Championship between Sauber junior Theo Pourchaire and Mercedes reserve Frederik Vesti.

This season he’s Alpine’s designated reserve driver but hasn’t made an appearance in FP1 yet.

The F1 driver’s market is in a fascinating place right now, although Haas have already ruled out signing him.

He’s been linked with replacing Ocon or Gasly in 2025 with both drivers out of contract.

Ocon has previously said that Doohan deserves a seat in Formula 1, but he would have been hoping it wouldn’t have been in his place.
