Report: What Behdad Eghbali really likes about Roberto De Zerbi as he considers giving him Chelsea job

It now looks like former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has a great chance of getting the Chelsea job.

Chelsea are searching for a new man for the Stamford Bridge dugout after Mauricio Pochettino‘s departure last week.

It has been claimed that Roberto De Zerbi is one name that the Blues are currently considering.

The 44-year-old is without work right now after leaving his former club by mutual consent like Pochettino.

However, Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali could be about to give him a new job.

At present, not everyone at Chelsea seems to be advocating for De Zerbi to be brought in.

According to The Independent, the club’s football hierarchy favour Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca over him.

However, De Zerbi appears to have a big fan in Eghbali, and that is what really matters with the Chelsea co-owner being one of the key decision-makers at Stamford Bridge.

The Independent’s report claims that Eghbali has been struck by the Italian’s personality.

It would now not be a surprise if he decided to give De Zerbi the job.

Should Chelsea appoint Roberto De Zerbi over Enzo Maresca?

Maresca probably has the potential to become a top manager after winning promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City and working with Pep Guardiola.

However, De Zerbi is just a much safer bet, already proving that he can get things done in the English top flight.

De Zerbi guided Brighton to sixth place last season while having his Brighton side play some beautiful stuff.

They were really good in possession during the 2022/23 campaign, averaging 57.5% of it throughout that season. It was the third-highest average recorded in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.

That is what De Zerbi was able to do at Brighton. Imagine what he could do at Chelsea with better quality players, such as Enzo Fernandez, the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history.
