Rio Ferdinand praises three Man Utd stars after FA Cup final win vs Man City, he ‘loves’ what two players achieved

Rio Ferdinand has shown his praise for three Manchester United stars after the Red Devils secured the FA Cup trophy over Manchester City at Wembley.

Manchester United defied the odds and beat Premier League champions Manchester City in a thrilling 2-1 win on Saturday.

The Red Devils had endured a tough second season under Erik ten Hag, who led United to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

However, Erik ten Hag’s men turned up for the final and produced a stunning performance against the reigning Premier League champions.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the first half at Wembley before Kobbie Mainoo added United’s second before half-time.

United superbly defended against a City onslaught in the second half before Jeremy Doku’s long-range effort managed to squeeze past Andre Onana.

Despite Jeremy Doku’s 87th-minute strike, City were unable to produce the all-important equaliser and United sealed a 2-1 victory over Pep Guardiola’s men.

Ten Hag proudly lifted the FA Cup trophy on the weekend after avenging the FA Cup final defeat to City at Wembley in 2023.

Ferdinand pays tribute to one Man Utd star

Raphael Varane produced a stunning performance in the FA Cup final in his last match for Manchester United.

The 31-year-old French defender had previously confirmed that he would leave Old Trafford in the summer ahead of the Manchester City clash.

Erik ten Hag was able to reunite Varane in defence with Lisandro Martinez for the FA Cup final and the pair produced masterclass performances against City.

Lisandro Martinez’s partnership with Varane was widely hailed in Ten Hag’s debut season at Old Trafford and the pair offered much-needed stability in defence.

Ten Hag was unable to rely on the defensive partnership again for the 2023-24 season due to injuries to both Varane and Martinez over the course of the campaign.

Varane, who is out of contract with United on 30th June, will walk out of the Premier League club as a free agent after securing an FA Cup medal.

United tweeted out a clip of an emotional Varane speaking about his departure from the club and how the Frenchman “fought a lot to be back in time” for the final.

Rio Ferdinand took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and showed his admiration for the former Real Madrid star.

The United legend simply tagged Varane’s handle on X and posted a clapping emoji alongside a trophy emoji in his tweet.

Ferdinand ‘loves’ what two Man Utd stars did

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo made history on the weekend after becoming the first teenage duo to score in the same FA Cup final.

The two United players also entered the history books alongside two club legends for teenagers who have found the back of the net in the FA Cup final.

Mainoo has been widely praised for his breakout season at Old Trafford and firmly established himself as a key midfield influence for Ten Hag’s men.

Garnacho, meanwhile, has excelled under United boss Ten Hag in the 2023-24 campaign and impressed with his attacking output for the Red Devils.

Ferdinand showed his admiration for both Garnacho and Mainoo after United tweeted out about the teenage duo scoring in the FA Cup final.

He simply wrote: “Love this!”
