Report: £378,000-a-week man will now decide whether he wants to sign new Man City contract before next season

It has been reported that a certain figure at Manchester City will spend the time before next season to decide his future at the club.

There is quite a lot of uncertainty about things at Manchester City, with a claim emerging on Thursday that Kevin De Bruyne’s representatives have already spoken to San Diego FC. City’s number 17’s move to the club is nowhere near imminent, as per the report.

But it was reported last Tuesday that next season will be De Bruyne’s last at the Etihad Stadium before he heads to the MLS.

Man City man will spend the close season deciding his future

Similarly, it was claimed on Sunday that City expect Ederson Moraes to join a Saudi Pro League club in the summer.

But it has been claimed by The Guardian that in the close season, Pep Guardiola will decide whether he aims to extend his contract beyond 2025 at Manchester City.

The report states that after City won the treble last year, Guardiola had decided that the 2024/2025 season would be his final campaign at the club.

But now, the Catalan tactician has decided to take his time and ponder over a final decision over the next couple of months. It is believed that the higher-ups at the club wish for Guardiola to put pen to paper and commit his future to City.

Man City boss Guardiola seems to be approaching the decision smartly

In our view, Pep Guardiola seems to be taking the smart approach by patiently weighing up whether he intends to sign a contract renewal at Manchester City.

Guardiola has spent more time at City than at any of the previous clubs he has managed and as a result, it would be unwise for him to rush into taking a decision about his future.

Instead, the Spaniard can decide how he feels heading into next season and whether he remains keen on making history at the club for a few more years.

The sooner the uncertainty around Guardiola’s future ends, the better it will be for Manchester City ahead of the 2024/2025 campaign.
