Now you can hum to search in YouTube Music

Google seems to be diligently looking for new words to put in front of the verb ‘Search’. Earlier this year, it launched Circle to Search, and now the company’s music streaming service YouTube Music has been given the new search feature “Hum to Search”, or hum to search.

The new search function works just like it sounds: you just tap the search icon, tap the waveform or equalizer icon to the right of the microphone icon, then start humming (or singing or whistling). YouTube Music will search for the song and offer options to play the song or add it to a playlist.

In our early tests, the feature was a bit hit and miss with humming alone, though it may have been user error.

The new search function is currently being rolled out to the Android version of the music streaming service YouTube Music; when it will come to other platforms is unclear. A similar feature was launched for Google’s regular search engine back in 2020.
