Arsenal are now ready to step up their interest in a youngster who is currently being watched by several top European clubs.
Over the past few campaigns, Mikel Arteta hasn’t perhaps been able to lean upon the Hale End academy as much as he may have liked.
The Spaniard arrived at the Emirates with a huge squad rebuild on his hands, knowing it wasn’t necessarily the perfect time to introduce a host of youngsters.
Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe had already taken their first steps, but otherwise the Arsenal manager hasn’t been famous for his promotion of young players.
In fact, some fans are actually frustrated that the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly haven’t been handed more chances – players hoped to be future England internationals.
But given the progress Arsenal have made this season, Arteta will probably be forgiven.
That being said, those fans may be pleased to hear that Arsenal are now showing an interest in some of Europe’s top young talent this summer.
And having scouted Stade Rennais’ Desire Doue extensively of late, Arsenal are now set for initial talks with the French club.

That’s according to a report by CaughtOffside, which details that both Manchester United and Real Madrid are also interested in 18-year-old Doue among other clubs.
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a stellar campaign for Rennes, building on his breakthrough campaign in 2022/23.
Amassing 43 appearances across all competitions, the youngster already has a wealth of experience and could fare well in the Premier League.
TBR Football recently shared Arsenal’s interest in Doue, explaining that they would be willing to go toe-to-toe with United.
And given Doue’s profile, he could be a sensible replacement for the likes of Emile Smith Rowe or Fabio Vieira should they depart.
The youngster would be an immediate downgrade on both, but would perhaps be better suited to the squad role they currently hold, allowing him time to adapt to England.
And if there’s any doubt over Doue’s talent, Arsenal fans need only hear that the 18-year-old had more take-ons than Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1 last season (FBref).
All that being said, one Arsenal target is now said to be available for loan, and his club chiefs aren’t necessarily convinced about his talent.
