8-goal star & 'excellent' free-agent: 3 Championship-ready strikers Derby County should now target - opinion

Derby County desperately need to bolster their attack this summer.

After winning promotion to the Championship, Derby County have now released a number of players and have been left with only James Collins and Conor Washington up top.

It has been reported that the Rams will now prioritise signing a striker, a midfielder and a goalkeeper, with promoted teams’ inability to score goals often resulting in immediate relegation.

Derby may not have the funds to match some of their Championship rivals, but they really need to be signing strikers who have plenty of experience in the second tier and will guarantee them goals.

Here are three Championship-ready strikers for Derby to target this summer.

Three Championship-ready strikers to target

Tom Bradshaw

Tom Bradshaw was released by Millwall this month after making only 21 starts in the Championship.

The 31-year-old has chipped in with 44 goals since joining the Lions in 2019, while he claimed an impressive 21 goal contributions during the 2022-23 season.

Bradshaw may not be in his prime anymore, but having scored 57 goals in the Championship in his career, he certainly knows how to find the net.

The forward could be a real coup for the Rams, who need experience and goals in their frontline.

Aaron Connolly

Aaron Connolly has never quite reached the potential that was expected of him at Brighton, but that doesn’t mean he’s done badly either.

The 24-year-old scored eight goals for Hull City this season before he was released, while he also has five goals in the Premier League with the Seagulls too.

Connolly is likely to be in high demand this term, but would definitely be a very solid signing for Paul Warne‘s side.

Tyrese Campbell

Tyrese Campbell has struggled with injuries during his time at Stoke City, but probably would have earned himself a move higher up the pyramid if he had stayed fit.

The ‘excellent‘ forward has previously attracted interest from the likes of Everton and Newcastle United, but never got his big move.

His most injury-free campaign saw him pick up nine goals and five assists, while he has scored 31 times in the Championship in total.

At only 24, there will likely be a number of clubs ready to take a risk with Campbell. It would certainly be an ambitious move for Derby, but he would be a brilliant signing if they can tempt him to stay in the Midlands.
