Wayne Rooney says he used to love playing against £50m player when he was at Tottenham

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has admitted he used to love playing against one specific player when he was at Tottenham Hotspur.

A number of years have now passed since the England legend last played against Tottenham in a United shirt.

Rooney’s final game against Spurs came in the 2017/18 campaign after he had left Manchester United to return to Everton.

However, his last game for the Red Devils against Spurs actually came in the final game at White Hart Lane where he was able to score as Tottenham took the points.

And he has now admitted there is one player who he used to love playing against before Tottenham sold him in 2017.

Wayne Rooney admits he used to get the better of £50m Tottenham man

Walker departed Tottenham in 2017 to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for a reported fee of £50m after eight years in north London.

Since leaving Tottenham, Walker has gone on to win everything there is in club football under Guardiola.

However, Rooney has admitted the England international was a player who he actually enjoyed playing against during his time at United.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s coverage of the FA Cup final over the weekend, Rooney claimed he was one of the few players who was able to get the better of the pacey full-back.

“I actually had a lot of joy against Kyle when he was at Tottenham,” Rooney said.

“But how his game has evolved over the last five/six/seven years is incredible and he’s changed the game a bit.”

Pedro Porro is turning out to be Kyle Walker’s successor

Having lost Walker to City back in 2017, Spurs have struggled to find their long-term successor for the England international.

However, it finally looks like Spurs have got their man in Pedro Porro to provide them with a similar attacking threat as to what Walker offered.

Porro is now set to go into the new campaign with a summer of rest under his belt having missed out on the Spanish national side.

And the reaction this caused from the Spurs fans goes to show just how well the Spaniard has taken to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
