'Today was' – young Man Utd fan's eight-word reaction after rare chance encounter with Kobbie Mainoo's father and 'famous' brother

A young Manchester United fan was left speechless after he had a chance encounter with Kobbie Mainoo’s father and ‘famous’ brother at the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Kobbie Mainoo played a starring role for Manchester United and the England midfielder produced a show-stealing performance at Wembley.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the first half before Mainoo doubled United’s advantage over Manchester City before half-time.

Jeremy Doku pulled one back for Manchester City late in the second half, but Pep Guardiola’s men were outclassed by United in the FA Cup final.

Mainoo had a remarkable breakout season at Old Trafford during the 2023-24 campaign and earned widespread praise for his performances.

The 19-year-old Stockport-born player has become a linchpin figure in the United midfield and has been a key first-team player under manager Erik ten Hag.

Mainoo’s impressive campaign with United even caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who called him up for the senior England squad in the March international break.

The Three Lions star is tipped to play a role in England’s Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer after Gareth Southgate named him in his provisional squad.

Man Utd fan meets Mainoo’s father and brother

Ex-Love Island star Jordan Hames, who is the brother of Kobbie Mainoo, posted a heartfelt interaction with one Manchester United fan at the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Jordan Hames’ clip on his TikTok account featured a father, Gareth Corbett, alongside his son, Austin Corbett, travelling down the escalator.

Austin Corbett was wearing a United shirt featuring Kobbie Mainoo’s name and his number, which caught the eye of Hames and Felix Mainoo.

The young United supporter is asked if Mainoo is his favourite player before turning around nodding at Felix Mainoo and Hames.

Felix, who is Kobbie’s father, then proceeds to tell the United fan that Kobbie is his son and leaves Austin and Gareth Corbett both stunned in disbelief.

Austin’s father asks his son if he wants to say hello before telling Felix and Hames that his son’s favourite United player is Kobbie.

The young United supporter showed incredible manners after he wiped his hand – his dad took his crisp packet away – before shaking Felix’s hand.

Austin can be heard saying something to Felix when shaking his hand, with Hames’ clip on TikTok later going viral.

Speaking to United In Focus in an exclusive interview, Austin’s mother, Jenna Corbett, admitted that she can’t remember exactly what her son said to Felix in the exchange.

However, she thinks her son told Mainoo’s father that United would not have lifted the FA Cup trophy if the England star hadn’t scored in the first half.

“Unfortunately, we don’t remember exactly [what he said], but [it was] something about if it weren’t for Mainoo’s goal, we wouldn’t have won that game,” Jenna said.

Man Utd fan’s reaction to meeting Mainoo’s father and brother

A TikTok account belonging to Jenna Corbett commented on Hames’ video and shared her son’s reaction after the meeting.

She proudly admitted that Austin was her son and said the young United fan said it was the ‘best day of his life’ after meeting Mainoo’s father and brother.

Jenna wrote in the comments: “This is my boy!! Huge Man Utd fan especially Mainoo!

“Keep making mum proud Austin! Austin said after this meeting ‘today was the best day of my life.’”

Jenna said her son’s dream is to play for United and Mainoo’s fairytale story has made that “seem possible” to Austin.

“It’s been lovely. Austin is just a little boy who adores anything Manchester United,” she told United In Focus.

“He has a few favourite players but Mainoo caught his eye based on him being so young and doing so well straight from the academy.

“Austin’s dream is to one day play for United, so Mainoo makes that seem possible to Austin.

“From what I know, Mainoo seems to be a well-rounded lad, and his dad and brother were apparently lovely, too, so any positive impact on Austin can only be a plus!”
