Report: Man City are unlikely to pay £100m to sign Premier League player in the summer

It has been claimed that Manchester City are unlikely to pay £100 million to sign one player in the Premier League.

Manchester City are known to stick to their guns about the fees they pay to sign players — ensuring that they rarely ever overpay for targets.

However, with the inflated state of the transfer market, clubs will charge City a premium in the summer.

Especially if the selling club in question is aware that the player Manchester City are chasing could solve a problem area in their squad.

It seems like the midfield is one area the Sky Blues plan to address, with a report in late April claiming that Pep Guardiola likes both Joao Neves and Bruno Guimaraes.

Even so, Football Transfers have reported that Arsenal as well as Manchester City are unlikely to pay Bruno Guimaraes’ £100 million release clause to sign him.

More obstacles in City’s reported move for Bruno Guimaraes

It has been claimed that the fee will have to be significantly lowered for City to go ahead with the move to sign the 26-year-old.

However, Newcastle United are not believed to be open to oblige to the Premier League winner’s demand.

Another detail mentioned in the report is Bruno Guimaraes will have to accept being an understudy to Rodri if he signs for Manchester City.

The Sky Blues are keen on addressing different areas of the pitch: left-back, right-back and signing another attacking midfielder.

As a result, Guimaraes is not their number one priority heading into the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, it is believed Pep Guardiola would prefer signing Joshua Kimmich over Bruno Guimaraes, as he can provide cover in midfield and at right-back at Manchester City.

With all these factors in place, one can gauge why the former Lyon midfielder’s release clause seems to putting them off.
