A committee tasked with the responsibility of investigating the activities of the Taraba Television Station has been inaugurated by the state government.
This development followed Governor Agbu Kefas’ recent suspension of the general manager of the station.
Inaugurating the committee mandated to carry out the investigation, the Taraba State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa, urged its members to adhere strictly to the stated terms of reference.
He also charged them to distance themselves from witch-hunting any person, urging them to be just and fair in their assignment.
The committee’s terms of reference include investigating the station’s revenue inflows from advertisements and other revenue streams.
The members of the committee were also urged to assess the sustainability strategies used to ensure debt reduction and savings at the station.
Apart from examining the reasons behind why the station has been off the air for quite a while, the committee members are also to investigate the alleged insubordination and lack of adherence to the directive to use part of the monthly overhead to reduce debt.
Overall, they have also been directed to recommend whether the station should pursue full or partial commercialisation for self-sustainability.
Headed by Justice Hamidu Audu, the five-man committee, through its secretary, Liberty Andrew, has called for the submission of memoranda from the public, staff of the station and other professional unions.
