What Kobbie Mainoo did for Man Utd star during post-match celebration proves he’s a locker-room leader in the making

Kobbie Mainoo has been praised by Manchester United fans after he showed incredible awareness for one of his teammates during the post-match FA Cup final celebrations.

Manchester United ended their up-and-down season on a high note after their 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s men produced a stunning performance against the Premier League champions and blew Pep Guardiola’s side out of the water in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho pounced on a mistake from Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega to fire United into the lead in the 30th minute at Wembley.

Kobbie Mainoo then stepped up nine minutes after Alejandro Garnacho’s opener and doubled United’s advantage thanks to a sublime Bruno Fernandes assist.

United defended superbly well in the second half after an onslaught of attack from City before Jeremy Doku scored in the 87th minute for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Despite Jeremy Doku’s effort – which squeezed past Andre Onana at his near post – City were unable to find the crucial equaliser against United in the FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag’s side were seen as massive underdogs coming into the contest, but the Dutchman signed off the season by winning his second trophy as United boss.

Mainoo assists Man Utd star during celebrations

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo produced a show-stealing performance in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City on the weekend.

The 19-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a remarkable breakout season under Erik ten Hag and has become a linchpin midfield figure for the United first team.

Mainoo earned rave reviews for his performance in the FA Cup final, including United legend Paul Scholes dropping his verdict on the Stockport-born player.

The United player’s impressive season led to his call-up for the England national team back in March and he could play a starring role at Euro 2024 this summer.

Following the FA Cup final, United players celebrated their triumph in the team’s dressing room at Wembley and footage made the rounds on social media.

One clip on X, formerly Twitter, featured Ten Hag bringing all the United players together for a team photo before Marcus Rashford sprayed them with a bottle of champagne.

However, the quick-thinking Mainoo immediately ushered United teammate Amad Diallo out of the way when the alcohol was sprayed at the team.

United fans on social media lauded Mainoo’s elite mentality and awareness to assist Amad Diallo, who is a Muslim and does not drink alcohol due to his religious faith.

Speaking to the BBC after the FA Cup final, Alejandro Garnacho praised the brilliance of Mainoo and claimed that the United star was the “best player in the squad.”

“Incredible. The best player in the squad and he’s the youngest,” he said.

“We’re also good friends. I’m so happy for him.”

Garnacho added: “Incredible. Nobody believed in us. But we’re a team, all together. We fought, the game of our lives.”
